  • ADAS camera recalibration on the same visit, not a second appointment
  • We bill your carrier direct — GEICO, State Farm, USAA, AAA, Farmers, Progressive

The 710 is the worst road for windshields in our entire service area

The Long Beach Freeway's southern terminus is inside this city, splitting into spurs that feed the container terminals directly. This is where the nation's port drayage fleet begins and ends its runs. The Port of Long Beach moved 9,881,595 TEUs in 2025 — its busiest year in 115 years — and every container that does not leave by rail leaves on a chassis behind a tractor.

Metro's own corridor data puts heavy-duty trucks at 14 to 19% of I-710 traffic, and at over 30% of the daytime traffic stream on the Long Beach segment between Ocean Boulevard and 9th Street. No other freeway in our service area comes close to that share. Every one of those trucks throws grit, and a proportion are hauling aggregate or debris.

Damage from that corridor also runs worse than average. A stone off a container truck at freeway speed arrives with real energy, so we see fewer neat little bullseyes here and more combination breaks and long cracks that were never going to be repairable. If you have just taken a hit on the 710, look at it properly before assuming it is a quick fix.

Two things to have on your radar: the Shoemaker Bridge — the 710 connector into Downtown — came out of service in May 2026 with demolition following, and a large Caltrans I-405 rehabilitation covering 118 lane-miles of concrete pavement began in late July 2026 and runs to 2031. Both mean years of active work zones on the roads you use daily.

Street parking is why we do so much side and back glass here

Long Beach is dense and largely street-parked, and that shifts the work mix considerably. In some neighbourhoods we replace more door windows and back glass than windshields, because break-ins rather than road debris are the main cause.

Two things worth knowing if that is you. Back glass is tempered, so it does not crack — it shatters completely into thousands of small cubes across the back seat and into the trunk channel. It cannot be repaired, only replaced, and the cleanup is a genuine part of the job. And an open vehicle overnight in a dense neighbourhood invites a second visit, so this is urgent rather than a weekend task.

Tell us the neighbourhood, not just the city

Long Beach residents identify by neighbourhood and so do we, because the parking reality changes completely across town. Belmont Shore and Naples — narrow streets, permit parking, tight kerbside. Downtown and the East Village — towers and structures, often subterranean. Bixby Knolls, California Heights and Los Cerritos — proper driveways, the easiest work in the city. Signal Hill — slopes, which matter for camera calibration. Knowing which one you are in tells us immediately whether we can work at your address or should suggest a nearby lot.

A city with two very different fleets

The east and south-east side — Naples, Belmont Shore, Belmont Heights, Bluff Park, Los Cerritos, Bixby Knolls — runs newer, camera-equipped vehicles where a documented recalibration after glass replacement is standard. The west side and the port belt run Class 8 tractors, drayage chassis and work trucks. And CSULB, with over 42,000 students, adds a large pool of older high-mileage cars where a repair beats a replacement every time. Central Long Beach is more price-sensitive again. Tell us which of those you are and the quote conversation changes.

One more local hazard nobody expects: Los Alamitos Circle carries over 60,000 vehicles a day and is the only high-volume traffic circle in Southern California. Heavy merging at speed with very close following is exactly the condition that picks a stone off the car in front.

Where we work in Long Beach

Driveways and streets across Bixby Knolls, Los Cerritos, California Heights, Wrigley and the East Side; Belmont Shore, Belmont Heights and Naples with a parking plan; Downtown, the East Village and Alamitos Beach where a structure allows it; the CSULB area; and Signal Hill. Everything mobile — there is no shop here to drive to.

If you are in a subterranean garage, mention it early. Many buildings prohibit vehicle work in their rules, and static ADAS calibration needs level ground and clear space in front of the car that a tight structure bay will not provide. The usual fix is a nearby surface lot.

How it works

Three steps, no shop visit

1

Tell us what broke

Send the form or call. Your VIN or plate gets us the exact glass for your vehicle, including whether it carries a camera, rain sensor or heating element.

2

We check your coverage first

Before anyone is dispatched we confirm what your policy covers and what your deductible actually is, so the price you hear is the price you pay. No claim is filed until you say go.

3

We come to you

Your driveway, your office lot, your job site — at no extra charge. We fit the glass, recalibrate the camera if there is one, and tell you when it's safe to drive.

Insurance

What California drivers actually pay

Straight answers, because there is a lot of misleading advertising in this industry.

California has no free-glass law

You may have seen ads implying windshields are free by law in California. They aren't. Florida, Kentucky and South Carolina require zero-deductible glass coverage — California does not. If your glass is fully covered here, it's because you bought a full-glass endorsement, not because of a statute.

So what will it cost?

It depends on your policy, and we'll check it before we dispatch rather than after. Two things are usually true: comprehensive coverage pays for glass minus your deductible, and most carriers waive the deductible on chip repair because a repair costs them far less than a replacement.

Your insurer can't pick your shop

Under California Insurance Code § 758.5 your insurer cannot require you to use a specific shop. It cannot recommend one unless you asked for a referral or were told in writing that you may choose. Once you've chosen, it cannot steer you elsewhere, and it cannot cut your reasonable repair cost down to what its own shop would have charged.

No insurance? That's common

Plenty of our work is cash-pay, especially door glass, which often costs less than a comprehensive deductible anyway. Tell us the vehicle and we'll quote you a real number with mobile service included, not a "starting from" figure that changes when we arrive.

Speedy Windshield Repair is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any insurance company. Carrier names appear on this site only to indicate that we bill those insurers directly.

Our promise

What the warranty actually covers

"Lifetime warranty" is meaningless unless somebody writes down what it includes. Here's ours.

Covered, for as long as you own the vehicle

  • Water leaks caused by our installation
  • Wind noise caused by our installation
  • Moulding and trim failures from our fitting
  • Workmanship defects of any kind on our install

Not covered — and we'd rather say so up front

  • New impact damage — a fresh rock is a fresh job
  • Stress cracks spreading from damage that predates our work
  • Defects in the glass itself, which carry the manufacturer's warranty
  • Damage from a later collision or a break-in
Questions

Frequently asked

We treat an open vehicle as urgent and push hard to, because a car with a missing window in a dense neighbourhood is likely to be hit again. The variable is whether we have your specific glass to hand — common vehicles usually yes. You will get a straight answer on the call.

If your commute includes the 710, that is almost certainly it. Metro's own figures put heavy trucks at over 30% of the daytime traffic stream on the Long Beach segment, because the freeway ends in the port. Following distance is the only real defence — the further back you sit, the less energy a thrown stone arrives with.

A common problem there. For a chip repair we can usually work with whatever kerbside space exists. A replacement needs the vehicle stationary through the adhesive cure with room around it, so we will often suggest a nearby lot or your workplace. Tell us the street and we will sort it on the phone.

No. Rear glass is tempered rather than laminated, so it is designed to shatter completely rather than crack — there is nothing left to repair. Replacement is the only option, and we vacuum the cubes out of the seats, seat seams and trunk channel as part of the job.
